VS Boston Red Sox 05/23/07

6th inning

Michael Kay goes for the most obscure pop culture reference award.

Manny Ramirez hits a double in the gap. As he is rounding 1st his batting helmet falls off. There is something on Manny's skull cap that looks some what like a feather or something fluffy.

Take it away Michael Kay:
Michael Kay - "...and that little propeller might have slowed him down, it looked like Beany and Cecil."

Paul O'Neil - "What? Beany and Cecil?"

MK - "You remember that, that cartoon, little Beany had the propeller on his cap? I don't know if it was Cecil..."

PO- "I didn't know them on a first name basis like you."

MK - "Beany had the propeller."

I'm going to take your word on that. My memory is a little fuzzy on 1960's cartoons.

VS Red Sox 05/22/07

5th inning
Yankees down 4-1. Jeter at the plate with the bases loaded one out. He hit a ground ball to the short stop. They can't double him up and a run scores.

Michael Kay shows his math skills
"Cano scores and the Yankee deficit is cut in half."

Wow I didn't know Cano scoring counted for 1.5 runs.

VS Red Sox 05/21/07

1st inning
John Flaherty does the scouting report on the opposing pitcher, give the first 2 bullet points and something happens before he delivers the third.

Enter Michael Kay

"you know John I feel robbed you didn't give the last part of the scout report. I NEED to know."

Well gee Michael I hope you would be able to sleep if you missed it. I'm sure you feel better now.

@New York Mets 05/19/07

I missed any of the pregame stuff, so if anyone heard anything let me know.

3rd inning:
MK - "A little big of trivia, Kenny you didn't know. Seven of those triples from Chief Wilson, off of Jim Kaat."
Michael Kay tries to make a funny! Well Kaat played his first year is 1959, and Chief Wilson played his last year in 1916. Somehow I don't think that happened. I'm sure Kaat appreciates the joke.

MK - "Once the games over on Fox BOOM hit the clicker go right to YES."
He's a laugh riot today.

----

He's been saying a bunch of stuff unfortunally my DVR isn't going back that far. So I think I'll pick this back up on Monday. No other Michael Kay this week. Games are on FOX, and ESPN.

@ Chicago White Sox 05/17/07

PreGame:
MK - "He (Melky) played so well that's he's in the lineup and Johnny Damon is not."

Possibly... however Damon did sit out yesterday as well so maybe his calves are hurting him still and needs another day off. Damon has gotten a lot of time off for a regular this year already.

1st inning:
MK - "Now fans might not know this, we keep talking about the cage indoors, what it is , is just a room with netting and you got a guy throwing or you got a machine pitching. Its just a long skinny room."

I think we all know what a batting cage looks like, thanks for explaining it for the people that never been to a mini golf with a batting cage.

2nd inning
MK - "And they turn the 3-6-3, but Posada beats it out."

Nope, not a 3-6-3, and Posada didn't beat it out either. The answer is C. The throw took him off the bag so Posada reached safely.

A peek into Michael Kay's lifestyle

This is from the New York Daily News
http://www.nydailynews.com/blogs/yankees/

This may explain some things...
-------

While eating in the Mariners press dining room the other night, I found myself in a conversation with Michael Kay, who was sitting at the table without any dinner in front of him.

As I enjoyed a bowl of clam chowder, Michael mentioned that he had never had soup in his entire life (he thinks the slurping sound associated with it is grotesque). I found this amazing. He then told me he had never had any fish or seafood of any type, either.

As the conversation went on, he informed me of several other things he has NEVER tasted in his life: bananas, condiments of any type (though he lost a bet on his radio show and had to eat a packet of ketchup, which made him sick), jelly, any cheese not on a pizza, veal, coffee ... it went on to include more things, but I can't think of them at the moment.

I don't know why this struck me as being so strange, but it did, so I thought I would share it with you. Just a little insight for you about the television voice of the Yankees.

@ Chicago White Sox 05/15/07

Rain Delay:
MK - "The Game was suppose to start 7:11 Central time, that would have been convenient..."

Kay says that it would have been convenient for the game to start on time. He's right, then I could start this blog off with a bang. We will all just have to wait a bit longer.

Game Cancelled due to rain:
Just going to have to try again tomorrow.
